　　故事背景设置在不远的未来世界，在414区的人型机器人殖民地中，私家侦探大卫·卡迈克尔(皮尔斯饰)受雇于痴迷商业世界的财阀马龙·维特(费米尔饰)去寻找后者叛逆的女儿。卡迈克尔需要与高度智能的机器人(鲁茨饰)通力合作，而在这个过程中，关于414区和“机器人之城”起源的罪行也浮出了水面。
